QF NEWS

Folks,

Our meeting date has been rescheduled to Wednesday May 9th @ Sportsman's warehouse @ 7PM in the loft above the shoe dept. Nathan Gregory, the wildlife bioigist at Clay WMA will be in attendance to talk about what is happening there. We will be nailing down a day to tour Clay. We've got a bunch more to cover. Please try to attend. Your input is appreciated.

Special congratulations go to Clint Graves son, Nathan.  He took the Trap singles championship at the Mid American in Ohio this past weekend.  About 350 shooters with some big, big name shooters.  He and a man from Indiana tied with a 196.  Nathan won the shoot off.The guy dropped his 4th target on the first box and Nathan swept 25 straight.  He won a beautiful leather bag with "2012 MSC Mid America Singles Championship Champion" inscribed on it.  He is a shootin son of a gun.

Thanks, Bob

I'm also attaching some info about various quail projects going on in Ky.
The first is at Shakertown. It is just south of Lexington, Ky. They hold a raffle each year for a chance to hunt there to help fund the project. here's a link. http://www.bringbackbobwhites.org/blogs/kentucky/181-for-bobwhites-scale-matters
Clay WMA news

I don’t know about the last hunt on December 20th but prior to that they had at least 1 party during every hunt found a covey of birds. On several hunts they had multiple parties find coveys on different areas, and they had their first successful trifecta (Grouse,Woodcock, & Quail). A party of hunters killed all three species in 1 day. They have also had several reports of quail being seen from other hunters, hopefully things will continue in the right direction. You all have been very helpful in the ongoing efforts of small game management on the Clay WMA and wanted to give you all a progress report. I should have the final numbers some time in the near future.

 Peabody Bobwhite Quail Research Project

Here are our results from this year's covey census. We saw a 57% increase in the population from 2009-2010, and a 19% increase from 2010-2011.

Since the project started in 2009, the population has increased 86%. Not bad!
